CUELLO VS RACHMAN LABANAN NG LAHI

Denver “The Excitement” Cuello of the Aljoe Jaro Stable became the first boxer to stop former IBF minimumweight champ Muhammad Rachman of Indonesia when he scored a ninth round TKO win in their WBC international minimumweight title fight held in Iligan City last Saturday evening.

The 38 year old Rachman (62W-9L-5D, 31 KO’s) and has never been knocked out in 75 fights. He went the full ten rounds in a losing effort to another rising prospect Milan Melindo, last year in Cebu City. Comparing him to Cuello’s previous opponents, Rachman had the best resume and was set to give the 23 year old Cuello a big test.

The southpaw Cuello, who also goes by the name Denver Singwangcha, passed his test with flying colors. He boxed smartly and darted in and out with his power shots . Rachman was forced into a defensive posture throughout most of the bout. A left straight by the Filipino decked Rachman in the fifth round. It was getting to be a one sided affair as Rachman was getting hit by a variety of head and body shots. Pride and conditioning kept him going.

In the ninth, Rachman was reeling from a brutal volley from the Filipino, prompting referee Bruce McTavish to stop the fight at the 1:03 mark. Cuello (22-4-5, 13 KOs), who hails from Ilioilo, retained his WBC international belt and will set his sights on the 105 lb division’s world title.
